Why Skincare is Self Care

Self Care

Self care is an ever changing concept that can mean a million things to any one person. I personally define self care as the intentional acts we choose that make us feel good. This idea is constantly evolving depending on the mood were in, the time of year, and many other factors. Some days, self care may be sleeping in. Other days, self care could mean going to pilates or doing a face mask.
One main pillar of self care in my mind is skincare, and I would think that this could easily ring true for many others.  It is not only a physical act but a mental one. For some, washing off their makeup or skincare is a way to cleanse themselves of the day. It’s their time to windown and feel refreshed and renewed. Taking time to intentionally cleanse, treat, and moisturize your skin puts effort into your wellbeing and appearance.
Skin care is important becasue it helps us to put our best foot forward by looking and feeling our best selves. Our skin is so cloesly tied to most of our levels of self confidence, which in turn can impact how bold we are, how productive or happy we are, and ultimately how we hold ourselves.
With glowing skin, I believe we are more likely to smile, to be happy and confident. With enhanced confidence, we are more likely to make bold choices, to take chances and to get the important things done. For me, when I take care of myself, I am far more productive, and these little productive habits that I accomplish enrich my life greatly.
For me, skincare is not only self care, but a pillar of my lifestyle. It has shaped how I see myself, what I am capable of, and therefore what I end up accomplishing in a day. These small implications compound into major successes in my life that were planted by the seed of skincare and self care.
So, try out consistent skincare as a form of self care. What’s the worst that can happen – your skin is glowing!
